Would you rather be stoned to death by pickles or being drowned to death in a pool of mayonnaise?

I would like to be stoned by the types of pickles you find in fast-food burgers.  Notice how I didn’t say “to death.”  It would take a lot of patience, time, and hatred towards me/determination to kill me with such pickles, so it’s not gonna happen.  I don’t think anyone hates me THAT much.

hmm how come you like the color orange so much ie orange air forces, orange backpack, orange everything…What made it your favorite color? :D

When I was really young I liked it because orange was my favorite flavor.  I had other favorite colors after, but then in 5th grade I was trying to be unique, so I started saying orange was my favorite color to be funny.  It was actually really ugly to me.  I guess it grew on me because the next thing I know I’m picking out orange clothes and gear.  And the orange love followed me ever since, but it went from “it’s my favorite because it’s weird and I like being weird” to “i like it because it’s bright and sunny and makes me feel happy.”  The moral of this story: “Proximity and Persistence.”   haha not really.

Would you rather be on a canoe, tug boat, or cruise ship?

They all have their perks.  Canoes teach us the importance of utilizing your own strength to help yourself, tugboats promote compassion and the importance of helping others, and cruise ships… *cue Kanye West’s “The Good Life.”  I am so inclined to pick the cruise ship, but I don’t want to look like a hedonist.

Do you know Harlow Altez?

Yes, he is a nice friend.  We went to church and lunch today, and he introduced me to a cool beatbox remix of a Lady Gaga song that I’ll post later. =)

My dad has a way of reminding me he's watching over me.

I’m chillin/studying with some friends and I was attempting to take a short nap.  My lil sibb Adriane was jammin on the uke and playing HELLA songs.  She went through Sade’s “By Your Side,” Tatyana Ali’s “Daydreamin,” Plies’ “Bust it Baby,” and lots more.  I was content listening to her while laying on the couch with my eyes closed, when suddenly I thought of my dad.  It wasn’t a dream, a thought of him just randomly popped into my head, his laugh and his glasses-adorned face.  And then, Adriane started randomly playing “O Holy Night.” How did she go from Plies to Christmas? haha maybe I fell asleep. Now, this song is special, it was my dad’s solo at the last Christmas church concert he was able to sing in, in 2007, so it always reminds me of him.  So I got goosebumps because Age played the song immediately after my dad’s face flashed behind my closed eyes.  And she doesn’t know why that song is special to me (besides it really just being my favorite Christmas song)!  No one does, except for my mom and one of my sisters.  Even if she did, she didn’t know my dad randomly popped into my head at that moment.  I’m sure it’s coincidence but I was just like WTF.  Of all moments of me to think of my dad, and of all songs for Age to sing… makes me happy… =)

Please remind students, colleagues, and friends that Monday night at 7pm is the UCD Teach-In at 1001 Geidt Hall. It’s a great chance for faculty, undergrads and grads to discuss the strike this upcoming week, and to get informed about how the Regents Vote will affect us, and what to do next—or now. I’m going to paste the text from the event description into the body of this email. Please circulate widely:

UCD TEACH-IN AND STRIKE MOBILIZATION

On November 18, the UC Regents will vote on a proposed 32% fee increase. Several groups at UC Berkeley have called for a systemwide strike beginning on Nov. 18 in opposition to this proposed fee-hike.

Come to the teach-in on Monday 16 at 7pm, 1001 Geidt Hall, to learn about the crisis of public education in California, about the crucial decisions that are being made right now concerning the future of the UC, and about how we can work to change the misplaced priorities guiding those decisions.

We will discuss the ongoing privatization of the UC system, which increasingly shifts the cost of higher education onto students. We will discuss the significance of the walkout on Sept. 24, and of the upcoming strike. We will discuss the causes and consequences of the proposed fee increases. We will discuss what we can do, and where to go from here.
